“Imagine all the food mankind has produced over the past 8,000 years. Now consider that we need to produce that same amount again — but in just the next 40 years if we are to feed our growing and hungry world.”
– Paul Polman, CEO of Unilever, and Daniel Servitje, CEO of Grupo Bimbo
I selected this quote because the statistics stuck out to me. These are statistics that we’d receive on the occasional pamphlets we receive, or promoted in the TTC but, who actually reads this? Even if we were to read it, how are we supposed to help this cause? In school, many of us have probably donated food to local food backs and shelters, although when we were growing up, no one ever showed us the conditions people have to live in. I think the main reason there is hunger is because there is miscommunication (aside from financial issues). Not everybody has the ability to understand what food insecurity really is. Part of school education in social studies should be dedicated to local issues, which include food insecurity topics.
